Tar Heels To Take On Northern Arizona In NCAA Volleyball Tournament
Nov. 28, 1999 Chapel Hill, N.C. - The 23rd-ranked North Carolina volleyball team will play the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks on December 2nd in the first round of the 1999 NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The Tar Heels will travel to College Station, Texas for the first round, which will be hosted by Texas A&M, who will play Stephen F. Austin. UNC enters the NCAA Tournament with a record of 27-5 and received an automatic bid by way of their ACC Tournament Championship. Carolina is making its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and last year, won its first-ever tournament match, defeating Oral Roberts. Northern Arizona also received an automatic bid by winning the Big Sky Conference Tournament and enters with a record of 19-9. The Lumberjacks are making their first tournament appearance in school history. The field is made of 64 teams with the number one seeds being Penn State in the Central Region, Pacific University in the East, the University of Hawaii in the Mountain and Stanford University in the Pacific. UNC, Clemson and Virginia will represent the ACC. Clemson will face Indiana and Virginia will play Arizona in the first round.
