Tar Heel Volleyball Claims Numerous ACC Honors
Nov. 22, 1999 Orlando, Fla. - Besides winning the ACC Tournament championship, the Tar Heel volleyball team won numerous individual honors during their time in Orlando. Prior to the tournament, the 1999 All-ACC teams were announced and Carolina led the conference in selections, with a total of six. UNC had three players named to the first team including seniors Tori Seibert and Shannon Smith and junior defensive specialist Liz Feldman. Junior Casey Simpson was named to the second team and Laura Greene and setter Eve Rackham were on the All-Freshman Team. Seibert has been all-ACC for all four of her seasons at Carolina. As a freshman, she was named to the second and all-freshman teams. As a sophomore, she was on the second team, and as a junior, she was named to the first team. This is the second time Smith has been honored by the conference. She was on the second team last year. After the tournament, three Tar Heels were named to the All-Tournament Team, including Seibert, Feldman and Asa Gustavsson. Seibert was the tournament's MVP after finishing with 50 kills, an average of 4.17 per game, a .398 hitting percentage and 16 blocks, nine of which came in the championship match against Clemson. Liz Feldman added the defensive spark for the Heels making 42 digs in the tournament and senior Asa Gustavsson played a key role in giving Carolina much needed lifts throughout the tournament. Gustavsson finished with 24 kills and 20 digs, 18 of which came in the championship match. 1999 All-ACC Teams
