Heather Brooks Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

Heather Brooks led Carolina to a pair of ACC volleyball wins over Duke and Wake Forest and is the Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week for November 10-16, 2008. Brooks, a junior from East Lansing, Mich., paced Carolina to its seventh and eighth straight wins and into sole possession of first place in the ACC standings with 17 kills and eight blocks in a pair of sweeps over Duke and Wake Forest. The East Lansing, Mich., product averaged 2.83 kills per set in the wins and hit a team-high .341 for the Tar Heels. Brooks was a large part of the Carolina defense that held its opponents to a .076 hitting percentage, while tallying 18 blocks in just six sets. Southern Conference champion Western Carolina and Atlantic 10 Conference
champion Charlotte to a combined three shots in the first and second rounds
of the NCAA Tournament. UNC defeated the Catamounts 5-0 in the first round
and the 49ers 4-0 in the second round to post shutouts No. 5 and No. 6 in a
row. UNC has not allowed a goal in 581 minutes, 49 seconds since a second
half tally by Florida State in a 2-2 tie with the Seminoles October 30.
