Carolina Volleyball Faces Maryland In The Quarterfinals

Wake Forest-- The University of North Carolina volleyball team begins ACC action at 4:30 p.m. in Reynolds Gym against Maryland. The No. 8 seeded Maryland Terrapins defeated the No. 7 seeded Clemson Tigers in three games to advance to the quarterfinals The Terps defeated the Tigers 15-12, 15-6 and 15-11 improving their record to 14-15 while Clemson dropped to 13-18 on the season.

Carolina is 2-0 against Maryland this season. At their last meeting, October 23, the Tar heels swept the Terps 15-10, 15-5, 15-3. Casey Simpson led the Heels posting a match-high 18 kills on 29 attempts with only two errors. Freshman Aletha Green recorded a season high 11 kills with a .625 hitting percentage. Holly Strauss registered six block assists and Lisa Fryer tallied a match-high 12 digs. Eve Rackham added 40 assists, nine digs and three block assists for the Heels.

The winner of tonight's contest will advance to the semi-finals match on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 7 p.m.
