Carolina Volleyball Has Four Players Named To The All-ACC Team

Wake Forest, N.C. --The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its All-ACC Team at the volleyball banquet held Wednesday night at Wake Forest. Four Carolina players were named to the team. Seniors Liz Feldman and Casey Simpson were named to the first team. Sophomore Laura Greene was named to second team. Nicole Reis was named to the All-Freshman team.

Liz Feldman, a defensive specialist from Eden, N.Y. was named to the All-ACC first team for the second year in a row. Feldman leads the Tar Heels in service aces this season with 30 and is third in digs averaging 2.99 per game. Feldman has been on the ACC Academic honor roll and the Dean's List since her freshman year.

Casey Simpson, an outside hitter from Marietta, Ga., received All-ACC second team honors in 1999. Simpson has recorded 12 double-double matches this season tallying a career total 1,443 kills and is 42 away from reaching the 1,000 mark in digs. Simpson also ranks third in Tar Heels history in kill attempts.

Laura Greene, an outside hitter from Yadkinville, was named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 1999. N.C. This season, Greene is averaging 3.86 kills per game and is also the lead dig-getter for the Tar Heels with 3.20 per game. Surpassing the 500 mark in kills and digs with 13 double-double matches including career highs of 27 kills and 31 digs against Wake Forest (10/13).

Outside hitter Nicole Reis, a native from Bedford, N.Y., was named to the All-Freshman team. Reis averages 4.57 kills per game and has two consecutive 30, including a career -high 34 kills versus Clemson (11/7). Reis, is the only freshman in the top -ten, ranks third in the ACC in kills. Reis recorded seven matches with double-double figures with a career high 21 digs against Georgia Tech (Nov.11)

The ACC Tournament kicks off Thursday, Nov. 16. Carolina plays the winner of the Clemson and Maryland match Friday ,at 4:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
