  • CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina volleyball team will host their final home matches Friday against Virginia and Sunday against Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels are 12-12 overall and 8-5 in league play entering this weekend, after sweeping N.C. State Friday night. Carolina will honor four seniors Sunday - Heather Brooks, Branagan Fuller, Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland and Megan Owens for their service in the Carolina blue.

    Carolina will host Virginia Friday at 5:00 p.m. prior to a men's basketball exhibition game against Belmont Abbey. Fans attending the volleyball match will also need a ticket to the men's first exhibition Friday night. The upstart Cavaliers are 10-14 overall and 5-8 in conference play, but have won three of their last four matches. Virginia posts impressive conference wins over Miami and Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers' Simone Asque has earned two straight ACC Player of the Week honors, notching 20 or more kills in three of her last four matches. The Tar Heels swept Virginia 3-0 Oct. 11th, which was the start of the Heels longest winning streak of the season.


     

     

    The Tar Heels will play their final home match of the season against Virginia Tech Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Hokies are 16-8 overall and 6-7 in league play entering their match against lowly N.C. State Friday then the Heels Sunday. Virginia Tech's Justine Record sports 3.56 kills per set in league play, including an 18 kill performance against Carolina Oct. 9th. The Tar Heels lost a heartbreaking match to the Hokies that night, posting their lowest hitting percentage of the season at a .104 clip. Sunday's match will again be bittersweet as the four Carolina seniors will play their final home match at the Smith Center.
