Tar Heels Gear Up For Terrapins and Eagles
Nov. 1, 2007
Chapel Hill, N.C. - The North Carolina volleyball team is coming off its second 3-0 sweep of NC State of the year on Tuesday and will look to keep the momentum going this weekend when the Tar Heels take on Boston College at 7 p.m. on Friday and Maryland at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Carmichael Auditorium. Carolina split its road trip earlier in the year dropping a 3-1 decision in College Park before picking up a 3-0 sweep at Boston College. The Tar Heels took down Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. earlier this year on the back of an impressive defensive performance. Stephanie Jansma and Christine Vaughen tallied six block assists apiece as Carolina combined to block 13 balls in the sweep. Carolina will put its unblemished 5-0 all-time record against the Eagles to the test on Friday. Three of the five wins have come by the way of 3-0 sweeps in favor of the Tar Heels throughout the short three year history. In the 3-1 defeat at Maryland Megan Owens tallied a match-high 18 kills but the Tar Heels hit just .095. The second-lowest hitting percentage of the year kept Carolina out of the match from the get go as it dropped into a 2-0 hole before claiming a 30-28 game three win. Maryland sealed the deal in the fourth game with a 30-22 win. Carolina still holds the all-time series with the Terps having posted a 33-18 record. Maryland has gotten the better of the Tar Heels as of late, however, having claimed three of the last five matches.
The Carolina vs. Maryland battle set for Sunday will be presented on ACC Select as the first serve is set for 1 p.m.
