Berlin, Germany

Hello from Berlin!

We spent the last two days in Braunschweig, a German town about two hours from Berlin. It was definitely a different experience from Amsterdam. Braunschweig is much smaller and moves at a slower pace. Things are more spread out and there's a lot less traffic.

Most of Friday night was spent shopping and eating. Shopping proved to be difficult at times, and the language barrier was more significant than in Amsterdam. I (Amy) dropped a shirt on the floor of a dressing room and couldn't understand that the woman working there was trying to tell me to pick it up. The Dutch were much better at English.

The food in Europe has been different but very good. We ate a pizza place on Friday, and Bekah Brinkley ordered something with nutella and bananas. She was expecting a dessert, but got a pizza with chocolate sauce and bananas instead, which turned out to be delicious. We also got our first taste of European gelato, and it is amazing.

Saturday we ate our pre-game meal at the Ratskellar, an authentic German restaurant in the basement of an old cathedral-style building. It was definitely different from the one in Chapel Hill! We have started to learn some useful German words and phrases, such as hello, goodbye and "Can I have some more water, please?"

Our match was against the club team from Braunschweig, but there were some familiar faces on the team. Laura Greene and Katie Wright had to play for them because they didn't have enough players. They also had Maja Pachale, who was a great player at Georgia Tech.

Today we packed up again and drove to Berlin. We are looking forward to seeing the style and personality of another big city before we arrive at our final destination of Paris!
