Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The team woke up bright and early for an 8 a.m. breakfast in the restaurant at the Museum Hotel...lots of bread and coffee. Shortly after breakfast, the team headed over to a dock, where we boarded a lovely and spacious canal cruise boat. Or should we call it, a very vertically challenged boat. Here we voyaged arounded the canals of downtown Amsterdam, seeing the Anne Frank House, lots of bridges and really, really small compact cars.

After we returned from our canal cruise, we had a few hours to venture off and see the different parts of Amsterdam. Some went shopping, some saw the beautiful artwork of Van Gogh, and other were taking in the city life of Amsterdam.

At 4 p.m., the team reunited for a pre-game meal at a little Italian restaurant downtown. Interestingly enough, we were seated in the basemetn and the kitchen was located on the third floor. The only way down was a very narrow staircase.

After our yummy Italian dinner, we were bused 45 minutes to Houten, where we played a top Dutch Second Division team. It was a neat experience playing in their gym. Watching in the stands were two former Tar Heels - Laura Greene of the volleyball team and Charlotte Plugge of the field hockey team. Laura is on the trip with us, and Charlotte lives in Holland, just minutes away from the gym where we played.

After the match we returned to our hotel and relaxed after another wonderful day in the Netherlands!
