CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina volleyball staff announced the addition of two student-athletes to the class of 2013 on Tuesday. Cayla Shortley (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons HS) and Meg Yanda (Atlanta, Ga./Holy Innocents Episcopal HS) will join the Tar Heels for the 2009 season bringing the 2013 class to five members for Joe Sagula.

Cayla Shortley is a 5-5 libero from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C. She helped lead Cardinal Gibbons to back-to-back state championships as a freshman and sophomore before earning a runner-up finish as a senior. Shortley was named the Raleigh Sports Club's Athlete of the Week as a senior along with being a two-time Carolina Region All-Tournament team member. She was earned the Cardinal Gibbons Athletic Award MVP as a junior and also earned Mid-State 1A/2A Conference Co-Player of the Year honors. Shortley played her club volleyball with the Triangle Volleyball Club, the same club that current Tar Heels Kaylie Gibson and Morgan Fox played on.

Meg Yanda is a 6-1 middle blocker from Holy Innocents Episcopal High School in Atlanta, Ga. She was a four-year varsity performer who led her team to back-to-back Final Four appearances in the Atlanta State Championship as a junior and senior. Yanda earned all-state honors as a senior and was also named a Georgia Senior All-Star selection. In the classroom Yanda has been a National Honor Society member the past two years and was selected as an ambassador to 2007 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar of Georgia Headmaster's List. Yanda played her club volleyball with the A5 club.

Shortley and Yanda join Cora Harms (Placerville, Calif./El Dorado HS), Heather Henry (Eden, N.Y./Eden HS) and Emily McGee (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central HS) to complete the 2013 class that will look to replace one of the most successful senior classes in school history as recent graduates Kelly Davies, Brianna Eskola, Stephanie Jansma and Lauren Prussing will leave Chapel Hill this year.
