Tsang Advances To Second Round Of NCAA Singles

ATHENS, Ga. --- North Carolina freshman Katrina Tsang scored a 6-4, 6-1 victory in Wednesday's NCAA Singles Tournament first round at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Tsang, the No. 45 player in the nation, defeated No. 52 Sylvia Kosakowski of Pepperdine to advance to Thursday's second round. The Raleigh, N.C., product will face the winner of No. 3 overall seed Melanie Gloria of Fresno State and Kirsten Flower of Georgia Tech.

UNC's Jenna Long and Sanaz Marand were also in action, both losing their first round matches. Long fell to Florida's Megan Alexander 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (3), while Marand lost to Florida's Diana Srebrovic 6-1, 6-0.

Long and Sara Anundsen as well as Marand and Caitlin Collins will open play in the NCAA Doubles Tournament Thursday.
