May 22, 2007 ATHENS, Ga. --- North Carolina's Jenna Long was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Senior Player of the Year Tuesday during a ceremony at the University of Georgia's Rankin M. Smith Student-Athlete Center. Long will complete her college career this week at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Long has capped an outstanding four-year career with a stellar senior campaign. The Fremont, Calif., native is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation in singles after posting a 22-6 record in dual match play. She will be a No. 9-16 seed in the upcoming NCAA Singles Championship which is set to begin May 23. She has been even more successful in doubles play, entering the NCAA Championships ranked No. 2 in the nation along with teammate and fellow senior Sara Anundsen. The duo enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 overall seed and the automatic qualifier from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Long and Anundsen have put together a sparkling 19-3 record in dual match play. By virtue of her national seeding in both singles and doubles, Long has already earned All-America honors in both, making her the first Tar Heel to accomplish that feat since Cinda Gurney in 1993.
