No. 11 Tar Heels Face No. 6 Fighting Irish Friday

ATHENS, Ga. --- No. 11 North Carolina will look to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the third time in school history Friday when the Tar Heels take on No. 6 Notre Dame Friday at 3 p.m. at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. UNC lost to the Fighting Irish on Feb. 16 in South Bend, Ind. The Tar Heels last advanced to the quarterfinals in 2005, when Carolina defeated Vanderbilt 4-0 in the round of 16.

Carolina advanced to the Sweet 16 by posting wins over Marist and Duke, while Notre Dame defeated Illinois-Chicago and Michigan to advance to Athens. Live scoring will be available online at GeorgiaDogs.com.

CAROLINA IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
• UNC is making its ninth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its third straight appearance in the Sweet 16.
• The Tar Heels have an all-time record of 15-8 in NCAA play.
• Carolina has won at least one match in the NCAA Tournament every year since 2000, when the Tar Heels lost to Arkansas 5-2.
• With a win Friday against Notre Dame, the Tar Heels would match their best NCAA showing in program history. UNC also advanced to the quarterfinals in 2002 and 2005. Carolina has never advanced to the national semifinals.
• UNC is 2-2 all-time in the round of 16.
• Carolina has a 12-8 record against teams in this year's NCAA Tournament field. The Tar Heels are 3-6 against teams still remaining entering the round of 16, with wins against No. 5 Northwestern, No. 9 Miami and No. 10 California.
