No. 13 Tar Heels Await NCAA Tournament Bid

May. 2, 2005

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 2005 NCAA Division I women's selection bids will be announced on Wednesday, May 4 on ESPNews. The women's announcement will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. Eastern time, followed by the men's announcement around 4:45 p.m. Eastern time.

The team brackets will be posted on the NCAA websites (www.NCAAsports.com and ww.ncaa.org) shortly after the completion of the televised announcement, but no later than 6 p.m.

The Tar Heels finished the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 7-3 record and fell 4-2 in the ACC Tournament semifinals to the eventual champs, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

With its 20-9 overall record, Carolina hopes to be one of the 16 host sites for the tournament. Both the Carolina women and men hosted a regional last year. The UNC women defeated Winthrop in the first round, but couldn't make it past Tennessee, who edged the Tar Heels 4-3 to move on to the round of 16.
