UNC Women's Tennis Set To Face Maryland In ACC Tournament
April 19, 2005 GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 13th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels have received the No. 4 seed in the 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Tournament. They will meet No. 5 seed Maryland Friday at 12 noon at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C. The top five seeds all earned byes in the tournament's opening round. The Tar Heels head into the tournament with a record of 19-8 overall and 7-3 in the ACC. In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday, Carolina remained at No. 13. Maryland, ranked 37th in the latest poll, is 11-10 and 5-5 in the ACC. Maryland, Wake Forest and Duke all finished with 5-5 conference records. Based on head-to-head competition, Maryland, who defeated both Wake Forest and Duke, received the No. 5 seed. The tournament gets underway on Thursday, April 21, with three first round matches being played at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. Thursday's winners will advance to Friday's quarterfinal round. In this year's regular-season meeting, UNC swept Maryland 7-0 on April 9 in Chapel Hill.
