Long Named ACC Player Of The Week
April 17, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina's Jenna Long has been selected the season's final Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The senior earns her second league award of 2007 after posting a 2-0 record in singles action against two top-100 opponents last week. A native of Fremont, Calif., Long won two matches in straight sets at No. 1 singles and also went 1-1 in doubles play. The senior defeated No. 75 Melissa Mang from Duke, 6-1, 6-4, and No. 100 Daria Petrovic of NC State, 6-2, 7-5. With the wins in singles, Long improved to 8-3 in ACC action, all at the top flight. She also improved her doubles record to 10-1 on the year including a 6-1 mark at No. 1. UNC, which secured the No. 3 seed in this week's ACC Women's Tennis Championship, will be seeking its sixth championship crown when it returns to action on Friday, April 20. The Tar Heels take on the winner of the matchup between No. 11 seed Maryland and No. 6 seed Wake Forest on Friday at 3 p.m.
