Tar Heels Finish Up Play In Palm Springs

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. --- Junior Sanaz Marand's flight one win over No. 5 Amanda Fink of Southern California highlighted the final day of play at the Duals In The Desert at the Desert Princess Country Club's Moore Tennis Academy near Palm Springs. Marand, ranked No. 10 in the ITA preseason poll, defeated Fink in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to claim third place in the top flight. Highlighting doubles play for the weekend was a pair of runner-up finishes. The senior tandem of Laura Reichert and Meg Fanjoy topped USC's Cristala Andrews and Leyla Entekhabi, 9-7, before falling in the flight three final to Northwestern. Marand and fellow junior Katrina Tsang advanced to the flight one final, falling to UCLA, 8-6. Singles
