Marand And Grabinski Advance To ITA Regional Finals

Oct. 26, 2008

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- North Carolina's Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski won two matches Sunday to advance to the doubles final at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regionals at Wake Forest's Indoor Tennis Center. This marks the second straight season in which Marand and Grabinski have reached the title match at the event.

Marand and Grabinski opened play Sunday with a hard fought quarterfinal win over Tennessee's Maria Sorbello and Rosalia Alda, 9-8 (5). The Lady Vol tandem had already defeated two seeded teams in early round matches. In the semifinals, UNC had a slightly easier time with fifth-seeded Amanda Granson and Reka Zsilinszka of Duke, as the Tar Heels won, 8-5.

The Tar Heel twosome will face ACC rivals Berkeley Brock and Lenka Hojckov of NC State in Monday's final. The winner of that match will receive an automatic bid to the ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 6-9 in Charlottesville, Va.
