WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- Six North Carolina singles players and three doubles teams are still alive after day two of the Wilson/ITA Carolinas Regional Championships the Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Wake Forest University. Top-seed Sanaz Marand, seventh-seeded Katrina Tsang, Jelena Durisic, Haley Hemm, Gina Suarez-Malaguti and Zoe De Bruycker all advanced to the round of 32 in the singles event, which continues Saturday.

In doubles action, the top-seeded and defending champion pair of Marand and Sophie Grabinski did not drop a game in moving to the quarterfinals. They are joined in the final eight by third-seeded Tsang and Shinann Featherston and the sophomore duo of Hemm and Jocelyn Ffriend. Hemm and Ffriend were the only unseeded tandem to knock off a seed, beating sixth-seeded Lenka Hojckova and Sandhya Nagaraj in the round of 16, 8-4.

UNC leads all schools with six players still alive in the final 32 of the singles event. Marand, ranked No. 12 nationally and the top seed in the event, breezed into the second round with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Winthrop's Yasmine Alkema. Tsang, the No. 7 seed in the tournament, also advanced with little trouble, dropping Kayla Schwenk of UNC Wilmington, 6-1, 6-1.
