CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina’s women’s tennis team turned in another solid performance in the final day of competition at the UNC Invitational Sunday.
Leading the way for the Tar Heels was junior Courtney Zalinski, who defeated Annemarie Milton of Wake Forest (6-0, 6-0) to capture third place in the Blue Singles Draw. Zalinski, a native of Greer, S.C., advanced to the semifinals Saturday before falling to the eventual champion.
In the White Draw, freshman Marlene Mejia of Lansdale, Pa., was edged in the third-place match by Bea Bielik of Wake Forest (6-3,3-6,7-6). Mejia was ousted in the semifinals Saturday by Wake Forest’s Janet Bergman, the eventual winner of the White Draw.
In doubles competition, the Tar Heel tandem of Jessica Zaganczyk and Mejia fell in the semifinals to the Demon Deacon duo of Bergman and Milton (8-3). Zaganczyk is a senior from Virginia Beach, Va.
The Tar Heels and Demon Deacons were the only teams to have at least one entry advance to the semifinals in both singles draws and the doubles draw.
The Heels next take the court Oct. 15-17 at the
