Anundsen And Long Advance To NCAA Quarterfinals

May 25, 2007

ATHENS, Ga. --- North Carolina seniors Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long used a 7-6 (5), 7-5 win over VCU's Olga Borisova and Marianna Yuferova to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Tournament Friday afternoon at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Anundsen and Long, who advanced to the national semifinals in 2006, are the only players in school history to move beyond the second round of the doubles event.

The decorated seniors, who are the No. 2 overall seed, will enter Saturday's quarterfinals with a 21-3 dual match record in 2007. The pair will face Catrina and Christian Thompson of Notre Dame, who Long and Anundsen met last week when the Tar Heels and Irish faced off in the dual match tournament. Long and Anundsen led that match 6-4 when it was suspended.

In the other Carolina doubles action of the day, the tandem of Caitlin Collins and Sanaz Marand fell 6-1, 6-2 to No. 1 overall seed Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic of William & Mary.
