Tar Heel Doubles Pairs Advance At NCAAs

ATHENS, Ga. --- North Carolina's women's tennis doubles tandems of Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen and Caitlin Collins and Sanaz Marand advanced to the NCAA Tournament round of 16 with straight-set wins Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Anundsen and Long, the tournament's No. 2 overall seed, defeated Alex Haney and Melissa Koning of Auburn, 6-4, 6-3. Collins and Marand topped Texas A&M's Tiffany Clifford and Sarah Foster, 6-2, 6-2. This season marks the first time in school history that multiple Tar Heel doubles teams have participated in the NCAA Tournament. Long and Anundsen will vie for a spot in the national quarterfinals Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Olga Borisova and Marianna Yuferova of Virginia Commonwealth. Collins and Marand face a tough test in No. 1 overall seed Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic of William & Mary. That match is set to begin at 2 p.m. Carolina's lone remaining singles player, freshman Katrina Tsang, fell in the second round to Fresno State's Melanie Gloria. Gloria, the No. 3 overall seed, advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
