Women's Tennis Team Upset by Wolfpack

RALEIGH, N.C. - The 25th-ranked women's tennis team from North Carolina was upset Wednesday afternoon by 68th-ranked North Carolina State in a match played in Raleigh, N.C. The loss was Carolina's third successive in an ACC match and dropped the Tar Heels to 12-7 overall on the season and 2-4 in the conference. N.C. State iumrpoved to 10-6 overall and 1-4 in the ACC with the win over UNC. The loss was only the second of the season for the Tar Heels to a team ranked below them in the national rankings. Victories for UNC were posted by freshman Caroline Hill at #2 singles, junior Cena Hackler at #4 singles and sophomore Courtney Zalinski at #5 singles. UNC's #1 doubles team of Hackler and junior Jessica Zaganczyk also win for the Tar Heels. The Tar Heels will try to end their 1999 regular season in a more upbeat fashion this weekend when they play host to two matches at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. UNC will play 47th-ranked Maryland on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 46th-ranked Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Virginia match is the final match of the regular season.
