Carolina Women's Tennis Falls To Tribe
March 3, 2000 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina's 28th-ranked women's tennis team fell to No. 13 William & Mary by a score of 6-3 Wednesday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Tar Heel freshman Marlene Mejia claimed the lone singles victory for Carolina, a 6-1, 6-0 trouncing of the Tribe's Delphine Troch in the No. 1 spot.
The Heels' other victories came in doubles action, where Mejia teamed with junior Kristin Koenig to win at No. 2 (8-6), and the freshman duo of Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck won at No. 1 doubles by a score of 9-7.
The Tar Heels fell to 2-5 in dual-match play with the loss.
Carolina has a big weekend of action, as the Heels host No. 44 Illinois Saturday and No. 53 Harvard Sunday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
