No. 17 UNC Dispatches No. 64 Minnesota, 7-0

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 17 North Carolina used the momentum of a victory in the doubles point to storm past No. 64 Minnesota, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Tennis Center. The Tar Heels (3-1) did not drop a set in singles play and improved to a perfect 3-0 at home so far in 2008. The junior tandem of Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith opened the afternoon with a solid 8-1 win over Tijana Koprivica and Danielle Mousseau at No. 3 doubles. The point would be clinched shortly thereafter, as sophomore Sanaz Marand and junior Sophie Grabinski, the No. 8 duo in the country, dropped Alessandra Ferrazzi and Alex Seaton, 8-2. Minnesota (3-1) would take the third doubles match, as Karina Chiarelli and Lindsay Risebrough triumphed 8-7 (6) over Katrina Tsang and Jelena Durisic. The Tar Heels showed their class in singles play, as the hosts won all six matches in straight sets. The bottom half of the lineup took care of securing the win, as Durisic, junior Laura Reichert and Fanjoy made quick work of their opponents at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 positions. No. 14 Marand, playing at No. 1, defeated Ferrazzi, 6-1, 6-4, to make it 5-0. Just moments later, No. 72 Smith finished off Risebrough, 6-1, 6-2. The final drama of the afternoon was resolved when Tsang finished off Chiarelli, 7-5, 6-1, to complete the sweep. UNC will return to action Sunday afternoon when the Tar Heels face Michigan State at approximately 3 p.m. DOUBLES SINGLES
