Tar Heels get on the scoreboard on second day. March 20, 1999 ATHENS, Ga. - The University of North Carolina women's swimming and diving team moved into 19th place after the second day of the 1999 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Gabrielson Natatorium on the University of Georgia campus. Carolina stands in 19th with 39 team points after failing to score on the first day of competition. Two Carolina swimmers placed in the championship final of the 400-yard individual medley on Friday night. Freshman Katie Hathaway of Matthews, N.C. finished fourth in 4:14.40. Junior Erika Acuff of Gladwyne, Pa. grabbed fifth place with 4:15.58. Carolina's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Hathaway (1:50.43), freshman Stefanie Rulis of Lexington, Ky. (1:49.89), Acuff (1:52.44) and junior Jennifer Strasburger of Mercer Island, Wash. (1:49.28) took 12th place with a time of 7:22.04. Preliminary results from Friday were as follows: 400-Yard Individual Medley - Hathaway, 4th, 4:14.66; Acuff, 6th, 4:16.35. |
