Three Tar Heels Named To All-ACC Academic Softball Team

June 30, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina juniors Anna Evans and Joslin Higgins and freshman Breanna Brown were named to the inaugural All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Softball Team, the league office announced Thursday. Brown was the only Tar Heel to earn both first-team All-ACC honors and All-ACC Academic accolades.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Evans, an exercise and sport science major from Fairmont, N.C., started all 67 games for UNC in 2006. She finished with a team-leading on-base percentage of .390 and had 12 extra-base hits.

Higgins, a journalism and mass communication major from Concord, Mass., tied for fourth on the team in home runs and was one of the team's defensive leaders at third base.

Brown, a center fielder from Durham, N.C., led the Tar Heels with a .298 batting average. A first-team All-ACC selection, Brown finished the season with six outfield assists and just two errors in 64 games.
