Norris Snatches All-ACC Honors
May 9, 2007 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Carolina's Lisa Norris was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference softball team, the league announced at its year-end banquet Wednesday night. Norris, who earned a second-team selection by virtue of her phenomenal season, was the lone Tar Heel to receive the recognition. Additionally, individual postseason awards were handed out at the banquet, with Virginia Tech's Angela Tincher a unanimous pick for ACC Pitcher of the Year and NC State's Abbie Sims garnering the league's top honor as ACC Player of the Year. Monica Montez of Florida State was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Year and Virginia Tech's Scot Thomas was voted by his peers as ACC Coach of the Year. Norris, a sophomore from Snellville, Ga., posts a 23-11 record to lead the way for UNC pitching staff and was honored as the ACC Player of the Week earlier this season. She strung together a remarkable 18-game winning streak in the heart of the season - helping Carolina to its school-record 28-game winning streak - and has played in 45 games for the Tar Heels, including starting 31 in the circle. She is batting .233 with 15 RBI at the plate, and is already tied for the fifth-most wins in a season in school history and is in the top ten at UNC in single-season starts, appearances, saves (t-2nd), innings pitched and strikeouts. Fifth-seeded Carolina opens the ACC Tournament Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against fourth-seeded Florida State. 2007 ALL-ACC SOFTBALL TEAMS AND INDIVIDUAL AWARD WINNERS
