Illinois Claims 2003 Triangle Classic Championship RALEIGH, N.C. -- Triangle Classic Tournament Director Noleana Woodard announced Illinois as the 2003 Triangle Classic Champion late this afternoon. The Fighting Illini won the tournament title on a run-differential tiebreaker. Illinois ended the tourney with a 2-0 record, defeating St. John's, 8-0 (6) and Liberty, 12-1 (6). Wisconsin took second ending 3-0 with wins over James Madison, 4-3, UNC Greensboro, 10-0 (5) and Fordham, 6-5. The Badgers were five runs behind the Fighting Illini. Michigan State completed the tournament in third place going 3-0. The Spartans downed East Carolina, 1-0, Temple 5-3 (8) and Radford 12-4 (5). MSU surpassed Carolina with a 12-run output in the final game of the tournament. Carolina finished fourth with wins over Rutgers, 10-2 (5) and Dayton, 4-2. UNC had a run differential of 10 runs, where Illinois had 19, Wisconsin 15 and Michigan State 11. Other teams that finished undefeated were; Virginia (3-0), Virginia Tech (2-0) and George Mason (2-0).

Weather Hot Line Directions to Walnut Creek Park
The University of North Carolina softball team will host the 2003 Triangle Classic Feb. 14-16 at Walnut Creek Park in Raleigh, N.C. 24 teams are scheduled to compete. Action begins Friday at noon with pool play and continues through Sunday afternoon.
