PLANT CITY, Fla.-- The University of North Carolina softball team defeated Nicholls State 4-2 Saturday in the team's final game of pool play at the Speedline Invitational. UNC (10-10) will meet Hofstra Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in single-elimination consolation bracket play.

The Tar Heels trailed 2-0 early on Saturday after Nicholls State's first two batters of the game scored, one on an error and one on a walk. UNC tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, when senior catcher Natalie Anter doubled to right and was replaced on second by pinch runner Natashalyn Snipes. Two batters later, senior pitcher Shannon Walsh homered over the centerfield fence to even the game at 2-2.

UNC added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Tiffany Tolleson reached first on a bunt single then stole second and scored on a single to left by senior Rosie Gustavson. Gustavson advanced on a single by Anter and came home on a double by senior Kelly Ramsey.

Tolleson was 3-for-4 for the day and Anter was 2-for-3 with a double. Walsh relieved starter Ashley Allen and pitched four innings to earn the win.
