Lisa Navas joined the University of North Carolina softball staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2001 season following nine years as head coach at Barry University. Her primary responsibilities include working with the catchers and infielders and helping to coach the Tar Heels’ offense. Under Navas’ direction, Barry was the NCAA Division II runner-up in 1998 and finished fifth in the nation in 1994. The Buccaneers advanced to the regional tournament in six of her nine years at the school. Navas was named South Region Coach of the Year in 1994 and earned Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1993 and ’97. Navas also served as an assistant athletic director and compliance coordinator at Barry. She has been an active member in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and served as chairperson for the NCAA Division II Softball Championship committee. Prior to taking over the head coaching job at Barry, she served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri. Born March 21, 1965, in Chicago, Navas played at NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma City University and in 1986 helped her team to a second-place finish at the NAIA National Tournament. She participated in trials for the ‘86 U.S. Pan-American Games team. |
