Janelle Breneman is entering her fIfth season as an assistant coach at Carolina. Formerly the head coach at Bucknell University, Breneman assists with the Tar Heels offense and oversees the UNC infielders. In 2008, Carolina had the top ranked defense in the ACC and were ranked eighth in the nation. Breneman also oversees the program's camps and clinics. Breneman along with the Carolina softball players have been selected in 2006 and 2007 to serve as NCAA YES Softball Clinic clinicians at the Collge World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. At Bucknell, Breneman was the 2004 Patriot League Coach of the Year after leading the Bison to the conference tournament for the first time since 2000. Prior to her successful run at Bucknell, Breneman spent five years as the head coach at Division II East Stroudsburg University. A 1992 graduate of Bloomsburg University, Breneman was a Division II All-America at shortstop and a three-time All-PSAC first team selection while earning a bachelor's degree in adult health/cardiac rehab. Following her collegiate career, she played two seasons for the Georgia Pride of the Women's Professional Fastpitch softball league, starting at shortstop and second base. In the fall of 2006, Breneman was inducted into the Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame. Breneman is a native of Ephrata, Pa., where she was inducted into the Ephrata High Hall of Fame in 2001. |
