Anson Dorrance Earns Regional Coach Of The Year Honors

KANSAS CITY, KAN. - For the ninth time since 1989 (the first year they were named), Anson Dorrance has earned a Southeast Regional Coach of the Year honor and it also marked the 10th time a Tar Heel coach has been so honored. This year accolade comes from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Regional Coaching Winners from the NSCAA this year are:
NCAA Division I Women
Central: Colin Carmichael, Oklahoma State University
Great Lakes: Randy Waldrum, University of Notre Dame
Mid-Atlantic: Kelly Cagle, Virginia Tech
Northeast: Jim O'Brien, Fairfield University
South: Anson Dorrance, University of North Carolina
West: Paul Ratcliffe, Stanford University; Jillian Ellis, UCLA

Dorrance has won NSCAA Southeast Rgeion awards, which are sponsored by adidas, in 2001 and 2006.

He was the Intercollegiate Soccer Association Southeast Region Coach of the Year in 1989 and Bill Palladino won the award in 1991 when Dorrance was in China coaching the World Cup team.

Other regional honors for Dorrance have included the awards from Soccer News in 1996, Soccer Buzz in 1997, Soccer Buzz in 2001, Soccer Buzz in 2003 and Soccer Buzz in 2006.
