Reddick & Gaston Named To NSCAA All-America Team

Dec. 12, 2002

KANSAS CITY, MO. - Junior defender Catherine Reddick and senior defender Leslie Gaston of the University of North Carolina women's soccer team were named Thursday to the 2002 National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division I Women's All-America Team. The team was formally announced at a press conference preceeding this weekend's NCAA Men's College Cup festivities at Dallas, Texas.

Reddick, a Bimingham, Ala., native was named a first-team All-America selection by the NSCAA for the second straight year. Gaston, from Montgomery, Ala., earned her first ever All-America honor as a Tar Heel with her selection to the third team All-America squad. Gaston is a fifth-year senior for the Tar Heels.

"We are thrilled to have two of our defenders named to the All-America Team," said UNC head coach Anson Dorrance. "Catherine and Leslie have been two special players for us both this year and throughout their careers. It is great to see their efforts recognized by the NSCAA."

Gaston started all 26 games for the Tar Heels this season playing both right fullback and the central defender in UNC's flat back three system. Reddick missed nine games as she had commitments this fall to the United States National Team as it works towards the 2003 World Cup in China. Reddick scored six goals and had five assists this season in the 17 games she played in.
