Reddick Named Honda Award Finalist

Dec. 11, 2002

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina women's soccer junior Catherine Reddick has been named one of the four finalists for the 2002-03 Honda Soccer Award, it was announced Wednesday by the Honda Awards Program.

Reddick, a junior defender from Birmingham, Ala., had an outstanding junior season for the Tar Heels as they advanced to their 22nd straight national tournament Final Four and won a 14th successive ACC championship (15th in the last 16 years). Despite missing nine Tar Heel matches while playing with the United States National Team this fall, Reddick scored six goals and had five assists while helping anchor one of the nation's best defenses that allowed only 0.68 goals per match.

The other finalists for the award are Joanna Lohman, a senior forward at Penn State, Christine Sinclair, a sophomore forward at 2002 NCAA champion Portland, and Aly Wagner, a senior midfielder at Santa Clara.

The winner of the soccer award will be eligible for the 2003 Honda-Broderick Cup given annually to the nation's top female athlete. The soccer award winner will be announced later in December.
