No. 1 UNC, No. 4 Santa Clara Meet In NCAA Third Round Saturday

Nov. 15, 2004

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Top-ranked North Carolina and fourth-ranked Santa Clara will meet Saturday in the third round of the 2004 NCAA Women's College Cup at Fetzer Field at 2 p.m. North Carolina (20-0-2) advanced to the third round with victories over Campbell 6-0 and William & Mary 6-0 in the first two rounds this past weekend. The Broncos (16-4-2) defeated California 2-1 in the first round and Stanford 1-0 in double overtime in the second round.

This will mark the fourth straight year the two teams have played each other in the NCAA College Cup. Santa Clara defeated UNC 1-0 in the 2001 NCAA championship game in Dallas, Texas, and then followed that with a 2-1 win over the Tar Heels in the 2002 NCAA semifinals in Austin, Texas. Carolina defeated Santa Clara 3-0 in last year's NCAA quarterfinals in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Gates to Fetzer Field for Saturday's match will open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets will be priced at $7 for adults, $3 for students and $1 for children.
