Reddick One Of Five Finalists For Collegiate Woman Athlete Of The Year Award
June 16, 2004 NEW YORK, N.Y. - The five finalists for Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year were announced Wednesday by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards with University of North Carolina women's soccer player Catherine Reddick amongst the select group. The winner will be announced Monday and will receive the 28th annual Honda-Broderick Cup at the Low Library of Columbia University. The Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year balloting involves all NCAA-member institutions, with nominees selected from among 12 women chosen as the most outstanding in their sports during the school year.
The five finalists are senior swimmer Tara Kirk of Stanford University, who set the world record in winning the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:04.79 at the NCAA championships; soccer's Catherine Reddick of the University of North Carolina, a senior who was named Most Valuable Player on defense as
UNC won the NCAA championship; volleyball's April Ross of the University of Southern California, a senior outside hitter who led her team to the NCAA championship; basketball's Diana Taurasi of the University of Connecticut, a senior guard who led her team to its third straight NCAA championship; and
softball's Jessica van der Linden of Florida State University, a senior who posted a 28-7 record with an ERA of 0.52 and three no-hitters including a perfect game.
