Three Tar Heel Seniors Chosen In WUSA Draft

Feb. 10, 2003

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three seniors on the University of North Carolina women's soccer team were selected in the recent Women's United Soccer Association draft. These three future WUSA stars will bring to more than 30 the number of Carolina alumnae playing in the third-year league, by far the most of any school in the country.

The first Tar Heel chosen in the 2003 draft was defender Leslie Gaston of Montgomery, Ala. Gaston was the second pick in the second round and the 10th player chosen overall. She was chosen by the Atlanta Beat.

Two other Tar Heels were chosen by the San Diego Spirit. Forward Susan Bush, a Houston, Texas native, was taken as the seventh player in the second round. Goalkeeper Jenni Branam, from Placentia, Calif., was taken by San Diego as the first pick of the third and final round of the 2003 WUSA draft.
