Quotes From UNC-Yale Women's Soccer Match

Sept. 3, 2006

Recap |  Box Score

North Carolina Sophomore Midfielder Yael Averbuch:

Asked about the play that led to her scoring the fastest goal in NCAA history:

"We have talked about doing it in previous games. I try to take notice to see if the goalkeeper is off her line. You think about doing it but you don't ever think it will actually go in. It's not something you imagine happening. I've tried to do it a couple of times when I was in club soccer but didn't come close."

"Obviously setting the record is nothing I ever expected to do. But I am pretty excited about accomplishing something like that. We talked a lot in the pregame about bringing intensity to this game from the very beginning after some of our earlier efforts this year."

North Carolina Head Coach Anson Dorrance:

"We're excited about Yael Averbuch setting the NCAA record. She's got an amazing amount of talent and obviously she has the kind of leg where she can score from midfield. She had a similar chance to take that kind of shot at SMU and didn't take advantage of the situation. We've talked about it since then with her. At SMU, the keeper was out on the 18-yard line while today she saw the Yale keeper out on the 12 yard line. Yael's second goal was also a great goal. She bent that around the keeper brilliantly."

"This was the most awareness we have come out with going into a game. I could tell we were focused in warmups today and our first half play manifested that. We brought awareness to the game and we also talked about precision finishing which we did well."
