CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Lana Smith's goal on a free position shot with 0:09 left in the first overtime period gave sixth-ranked Dartmouth a 7-6 win over seventh-ranked North Carolina on Friday evening at Henry Stadium. With the win, its 10th in a row, the Big Green improves to 12-1 on the season. The Tar Heels drop their second consecutive decision and are now 9-6 with one regular-season game remaining.

Suzy Gibbons scored three goals on the night for Dartmouth. Lindsay Stone and Chrstine McPike scored twice apiece for the Tar Heels.

Gibbons scored her second goal of the first half with 0:38 left in the first period to give the Big Green a 3-2 lead at the break. Gibbons also scored Dartmouth's first goal of the afternoon, while Gretchen Bell also scored in the first half. Erin McInnes scored Carolina's first goal on a nifty assist from Stone, who also scored UNC's second goal of the game unassisted.

The Tar Heels scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 5-3 lead with 17:45 to play. McPike, Stone and Kellie Thompson all scored for Carolina in that spurt. The Big Green stopped the UNC run at 11:43 when she took a pass from Gibbons in front of the net and scored to cut the lead to 5-4. Amy Zimmer scored on a free position shot with 9:16 left to tie it at 5-5.

The Tar Heels followed with a timeout, and 1:22 later, McPike scored her second goal of the game to put the Tar Heels back on top, 6-5. Less than two minutes later, Gibbons scored her third goal of the contest to tie it at 6-6 with 6:07 left to play. Neither team could score in what was left of regulation, and the game went to overtime.

In the first extra period, Lana Smith scored on a free position shot for Dartmouth with 0:09 left to give the Big Green a 7-6 lead it would not relinquish. The Tar Heels tried to rally in the second overtime put could not put the ball in the cage to tie the score.
