Women's Lacrosse Crushes William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Kellie Thompson scored five goals and Amy Havrilla added four goals as the North Carolina women's lacrosse team blasted William & Mary 12-6 Friday in an exhibition match at Busch Field. The Tar Heels ran off the first seven goals of the game to lead 7-0 with 7:10 left in the first half. Havrilla and Thompson each scored three of their goals in that run. After William & Mary finally got on the scoreboard UNC's Joy Gaines scored with 19 seconds left in the first half to lead 8-1 at intermission. Carolina then ran off the first four goals of the second half to lead 12-1 with 18,12 to play in the game. William & Mary then ran off the last five goals of the game. Gaines added two goals and an assist for UNC and Erin McInnes had a goal and an assist. Other assists for UNC were by Nicole Foran, Christine McPike, Lindsey Stone and Thompson. Melissa Coyne played 50 minutes in goal for Carolina and had 10 saves while allowing five goals.
