Chapel Hill ----- Senior gymnasts Miranda Ross and Claire Smith have been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Society academic honor society.

Smith is training on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise in 2007. She competed on balance beam and floor exercise last year and was Carolina's lead-off competitor on both of those events at the EAGL Championships and NCAA Regionals. A double major in psychology, and exercise and sports science, Smith is a participant in the Veteran Leaders component of the Carolina Leadership Academy.

Ross is training on the balance beam and floor exercise and serves as the academic captain for the gymnastics team. She is a mathematics major.

The mission of the Phi Beta Kappa Society is to foster and recognize excellence in undergraduate liberal arts and sciences. Founded at the College of William and Mary on December 5, 1776, it is the oldest such society in the United States.
