Tar Heels Recognized as Members of the All-America Gymnastics Team
Oct. 30, 2007
The National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches recently recognized eight members of the 2007 University of North Carolina gymnastics team as members of the 2007 Academic All-America Gymnastics Team. With over half the Carolina team included in the list, head coach Derek Galvin is ecstatic to continue the success of his team both in the gymnastics arena and in the academic realm. "This is a great honor for our gymnasts," said Galvin. "We have an outstanding history of academic success and each of these individuals has done their part to continue that tradition."
Recent graduates Claire Smith and Miranda Ross were recognized each of the four years that they participated for Carolina. Also joining them on the 2007 Academic All-America Gymnastics Team are Tar Heels Kristina Jacob, Shawna Kelly, Angela Lauten, Courtney Turco, Kara Wright, and Alice Xu. These outstanding achievements come without surprise, however, as the Carolina gymnastics team traditionally ranks among the top teams in the nation based upon team grade point average.
