Tar Heels find increased academic success.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The University of North Carolina women's gymnastics team had a record 13 gymnasts named as EAGL Scholar Athletes for the 1996-97 school year. For the second straight season, over half of the gymnasts on Carolina's roster were recognized.

One of the gymnasts who received this honor was junior Jennifer DeLuca, the current school record holder on bars. DeLuca was also one of only six Carolina gymnasts to be recognized nationally for her achievements in the classroom by being named a Scholastic All-America for the 1996-97 school year.

DeLuca also excelled in the classroom in the fall semester of 1997 by being named to the Dean's List, an honor that recognizes students who have grade point averages of 3.2 or higher.
