Gymnastics Wrap-up Regular Season at Home Meet on Friday

March 21, 2007

The University of North Carolina gymnastics team will compete in its last meet of the regular-season on Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m. The Tar Heels will play host to William & Mary, Rhode Island, Towson, and George Washington.

Carolina, currently ranked 29th in the nation, enters Friday's meet hoping to snap a three-game losing streak. Despite the team's recent setbacks, the gymnastics team continues to show great improvement. At their last meet against New Hampshire on March 16, the Tar Heels earned a season-high score of 49.100 on balance beam.

Friday's meet also marks the last home meet for seniors, Christine Robella, Miranda Ross, Claire Smith, and Courtney Turco. Robella is one of the most successful gymnasts in school history. Robella was an All-America on floor exercise last year after finishing eighth in her session at the 2006 NCAA Championships, and she has been named EAGL Gymnast of the Week four times this season. Ross, Smith, and Turco have been key figures in the success of the team, providing enthusiastic and active leadership all season long.

Carolina's last home meet of the 2007 season is on Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in Carmichael Auditorium.
