  • The University of North Carolina gymnastics team is ready to compete against No. 3 University of Florida on Friday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Carmichael Auditorium. The Florida Gators are 4-1 in the SEC and 6-1 overall. This is only the second meeting between the two gymnastics programs in Chapel Hill and the first since 1979.

"We are excited to be hosting the University of Florida gymnastics team here at Carolina," said head coach Derek Galvin. "They have been one of the top programs in the nation in recent years and they have achieved the highest team score in the country thus far this year. They are a very talented and well coached team. This will we a wonderful opportunity for our team to compete with the very best. It will also be a great opportunity for gymnastics fans to see one of the top up-and-coming teams, Carolina, along side one of the established teams that could be the next NCAA Champions."

The UNC gymnastics team is unranked this week, as the national ranking system changed in favor of a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) system. Since UNC has not competed in six meets this season, which is required to compute a team's RQS, UNC dropped from their No. 19 ranking from the previous week. However, if the rankings reflected the total season average as it previously did, the Tar Heels would hold onto the No. 16 position this week.
