Gymnastics Team Finishes Fourth at NCAA Regionals

The University of North Carolina gymnastics team finished fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet, hosted the University of West Virginia, with a score of 194.825. The University of Alabama won the meet with a score of 197.900. Senior Monica Middleton posted one of Carolina's three top 10 finishes. Middleton finished eighth on bars with a 9.850. Also finishing in the top 10 were senior Lisa Companioni and freshman Elisabeth Alsop who placed eighth on beam with a 9.850. Alsop set a personal best with her score of 9.850. Sophomore Anna Wilson finished 12th in the all-around with a score of 38.655, while Middleton scored a 38.000 to finish 18th. Freshman Olivia Trusty was Carolina's top finisher on vault and floor. On vault Trusty placed 13h with a score of 9.775. Scoring a 9.825 on floor Trusty finished 11th on floor. This marks the first time since 1991 that Carolina gymnastics went to the NCAA Southern Regional meet as a team. Carolina's best NCAA Southeast Regional was in 1985 and 1986 where they placed 3rd.
