Gymnastics Team Captures EAGL Championship

TOWSON, MD.--The University of North Carolina gymnastics team won the the seventh annual East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships. The Tar Heels defeated all seven schools in the EAGL by setting an EAGL and UNC record of 196.425.

Carolina tied its total floor record of 49.550 and set a season best total beam record of 49.000.

Sophomore transfer Anna Wilson claimed first place on floor with 9.975, which ties her personal best set last year at the East Coast Atlantic Conference championships. Wilson's score also ties UNC's school record set by Brooke Wilson in March of 2000. Sophomore Maddy Curley scored a 9.950 to take second place on floor and set a personal best.

Wilson was the top Carolina finisher in the all-around. She scored a 39.200 to claim sixth place, while senior Monica Middleton scored a 38.650 to finish eleventh in the all-around.

Freshman Olivia Trusty placed second on vault (9.875) and bars (9.900). Both of Trusty's performances were personal and season bests.

Senior Lisa Companioni and freshman Amy Williams tied for seventh on vault with a score of 9.825. Companioni's 9.825 on vault is a personal best.

Junior Natalie Halbach was the top finisher on beam. Halbach scored a 9.850 to finish in a six-way tie for fourth place. Freshman Elisabeth Alsop scored a 9.825 to finish tenth and set a personal best.

Carolina finished its season 26-7, the best finish in Carolina gymnastics history. Carolina had never finished higher than fourth in the six previous EAGL Championships.
