CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The University of North Carolina gymnastics team earned a 195.100 tonight to win their 3rd consecutive yet final home meet tonight against the College of William and Mary and Towson University. William and Mary finished second with a score of 190.550 followed by Towson with a 189.300. This improves the Carolina record to 13-6.

Freshman Olivia Trusty tied for first place on vault with a personal best of 9.875. She was followed by teammates Amy Williams, in third place with 9.825, and Lisa Companioni, finishing fourth with a personal best of 9.800. Junior Fritzie Cathcart and sophomore Anna Wilson rounded out the top five by tying for fifth with scores of 9.750.

Senior Monica Middleton led the team on the uneven bars, tying for first place wiha score of9.850. Both Anna Wilson and freshman Elizabeth Alsop earned personal bests in this event. Wilson placed fourth with a 9.800 while Alsop tied with teammate Fritzie Cathcart for seventh place with a 9.750.

The Tar Heels swept the top four spots on the balance beam led by junior Natalie Halbach's score of 9.900. Senior Lisa Companioni finished runner-up (9.875) followed by Monica Middleton (9.800) and sophomore Maddy Curley (9.700).

On the floor exercises, Carolina took the second, third, fourth and fifth places. Anna Wilson finished second (9.850), Lisa Companioni came in third (9.800),Maddy Curley placed fourth (9.775) and OliviaTrusty tied for fifth (9.725).

 

 

Monica Middleton was the top all-arounder, finishing with a 38.875. Anna Wilson's total score of 38.500 put her in third place.

This concludes the Tar Heels' 2002 home meets. The next competition is the Wolfpack Invitational, held at NC State on Friday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m.
