UNC Gymnastics Finishes First In Quad-meet

Chapel Hill, NC-- The University of North Carolina gymnastics team finished first in the quad-meet between NC State, Towson and Maryland. Towson and Maryland combined team scores to capture their fifth Governor's Cup for the State of Maryland. Senior Brooke Wilson tied for second in the all-around (39.050) and placed first on beam with 10.000. Wilson's 10.000 broke the current school record of 9.950 set by Wilson in March of 1999. Sophomore Natalie Halbach placed second on beam with a 9.950. Freshman Maddy Curley scored personal bests on floor (9.875) to finish second and in the all-around (38.950) to finish fourth. Junior Monica Middleton set a personal best on bars with a 9.800. Junior Lisa Companioni had a solid meet finishing sixth in the all-around with a personal best score 38.700. "Everybody was a part of what we accomplished today, " said Carolina Coach Derek Galvin "It was a real team effort." Carolina's next meet is Friday Feb. 9 in Dedmon Center at 6 p.m. The Tar Heels next home meet is Friday Feb. 23 in Carmichael Auditorium at 7 p.m.
